KONBAC is a Not-for-Profit Organisation dedicated to promoting bamboo as a sustainable alternative material. KONBAC trains the local community of Kudal, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, India in bamboo farming and production of furniture, gift articles and construction, thus providing employment to the local community, especially women.

Bamboo is great for construction too. With a tensile strength that's greater than steel, bamboo is the wonder material that will save our planet. Using bamboo as the primary material, KONBAC has mentored hotel resort projects across India and Maldives too.

The Palghar Project

The Palghar Project is an initiative of KONBAC and is supported by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra. This project works towards the economic empowerment of the local tribal community in Palghar district, Maharashtra, through opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.

Aim

The Palghar project aims at Capacity Building for the local tribal population, through making bamboo-based Furniture and Lifestyle Products income generation activities that will enable their employability and entrepreneurship. The Palghar project is a replication of the model developed at Kudal, Sindhudurg.

How We Work

It also aims at training the local community in scientific farming practices of Bamboo by adopting better agronomic practices. KONBAC also enables the Identification of specific species of bamboo that are ideal for making furniture and lifestyle artifacts and their Chemical treatment to ensure longevity of the furniture.
